Bsa Sportsman Hv

I want to get your thoughts, opinions and experiences with the BSA Sportsman HV. I found one here at a local Sportsmans Warehouse. I am really tempted by it,(more importantly, I got the go ahead from the wife!) it is marked clearance, but it hasnt sold. I was figuring about 20 good shots before it would need to be topped off again. Is that a good figure?

I will be using a Hill pump so I dont want to shoot it too low on pressure. What type of velocity should I expect? I have JSB Exacts and Exact Heavies, but virtually no Kodiak pellets.

It has an un-shrouded barrel, but its threaded and capped for a helper. I am already investigating that option. It is a.22 cal. Thank you for your input Regards Nathan This message has been edited by hnt5 on Jun 23, 2009 9:05 AM Author Reply Craig in WI (Login ) YC loud, heavy and accurate June 23 2009, 8:44 AM. Sorry I can't find any recorded fps numbers, I used to shoot kodiaks and JSB 15.9 gr.

Since they came out with the 18 gr JSBs thats all I use now the gun loves them. I bought mine used, it is a lil dinged up, that and its excellent accuracy make this gun my primary squirrel hunter.

I actually like the extra weight for off hand shooting. It is currently my most powerful gun since I sold my condor, my next most powerful gun is my AA410. I have heard that Sportsman Warehouse is letting them go for cheap (something like under 300 bucks). If I had a sportsman warehouse near me and they were letting them go at a great price I'd buy another just because. Not a huge fan of the cocking mech though, but it works.

I guess the power and accuracy (+feel and looks) is what makes the Sportsman HV a fine airgun IMO. 20 shots per fill sounds about right, to keep the fps spread down anyway. Bob in WV (Login ) YC Buy it! June 23 2009, 10:02 AM. I bought mine a couple of months ago at Sportsman's warehouse. After playing with the hammer spring screw I got it up as high as 985 with JSB 15. Evil Dead 2013 Mp. 9gr. I tuned it down to about 900-920 and actually got one 0.91' group at 100 yds.

It surely is accurate! I got used to the cocking system eventually, not without a number of times I forgot to push the bolt back in and pushed the pellet back out of the magazine and jammed it. The original magazines have problems jamming and skipping so I got a new metal one from AoA. I put a Rich from Mich shroud on it and it's now nice and quiet. I have had problems with leaking intermitently, and now I finally had to send it back to AoA for repair. Also, the gun was overpressured when I got it and the hammer spring was set too light so it wouldn't fire at all. It took several phone calls and help from friends to get it working.

Be prepared to do some work tuning it to get the velocities you want. I used a Hill pump too, and with the small reservoir it wasn't bad, except that the initial tuning process required so much shooting that I eventually went the scuba tank route. Once it the leaks are fixed I hope to have a real nice PCP for the measly sum of $399. When it works it's great.

Duncan tim johnston (Login ) YC more then 20 shots June 23 2009, 10:10 AM. Seems mine will get 30 shots before any real change. I did a test when I first got it. I was able to put 60 shots in side a small circle 9 about the size of a nickle) at 20 yards before it started to drop out side the circle.

IIRC about 70 shots before it went empty. Also put 10 JSBs 16 gr pellets in to a.29 hole at 20 yards. The gun takes a little getting use to on the cocking procedure but you will get the hand pretty quick. It is probably the best kept secret in air gunning. A real steel at the prices you can pick them up for at SW. AOA will do any repair work and the BSA bbl's are legendary. Get a 1in shroud form Rich from Mich and you will be set.
